First shots with my new MP-E 65 macro lens. I'm finding it quite hard to use but I've ordered a focusing rail (currently on backorder) which should take some of the pain out of the process. This little guy was frozen so I think that's why his face looks so mushed. I only managed to take about a dozen images before needing to take a break. This guy freaked me the hell out.
I put some honey out to assist in wrangling some ants but this little guy got stuck and died. Sorry Alfred, you were a good ant and didn't deserve to become another honey statistic. At least you went out surounded by your favourite food.
These little guys are cute when they're 1.5mm and running about like sugared up kids at a mall. When they're full face on a monitor, not so cute anymore.
This is the best ant face pic I've manged to shot so far with my new 65mm macro. To get some idea of how small this guy is I give you the following. She's walking over the edge of a business card and the height of the white area here is the thickness of the business card - 0.32mm.
Is it some form of chrysalis? About 1.5mm in size.
I'm not sure what was in here but the case was about 2-3 thick.
A long dead bug leaves a slightly moldy skeleton behind.
Looks like this little fella has a sad face.
This ugly lady was found hiding among some small leaves I'd collected. Great eyes but everything else about her creeped me out.
I was trying to use a fluorescent lamp to light this insect but it was more interested in climbing on it to get warm.
